Risk Management 101
Most traders don’t crash because of poor timing of entries. They fall because they can’t protect their capital. You can have the best strategy, a technically perfect setup and a feel for the market – but if you haven’t mastered risk managementyou’re heading from trading to gambling.
Risk management is a pillar without which no business plan can survive. And it’s what gives you time – time to improve, grow and ultimately succeed.

Risk no more than 1-2% per trade
No one can avoid a series of losses. But if you risk only 1% of your account on a single trade, ten losses in a row will cost you “only” a tenth of your capital. You’ll have room to absorb the losses – and keep going.

Risk-to-Reward of at least 1:2
A trade with a risk to reward ratio of 1:2 means that even with a 50% success rate you will be profitable. Winning trades will outweigh losing ones – the math works in your favour.

Daily and total limits (drawdown)
Especially in an environment prop trading limits are essential. EverTrader emphasizes discipline and consistencynot just the amount of profit. Limits teach you to protect your account and keep your cool – even in challenging situations.
What does responsible risk management look like in practice?
Let’s imagine an account of size $50 000. You decide to risk 1% per trade – i.e. $500.
You have set stop loss at 20 pips. So how big a position can you afford on the EUR/USD pair?
Answer. 2.5 lots.
Thanks to this calculation, you know exactly what you can afford – and trading stops being chaotic. You have a system. And a system is what survives in the long run.
The 3 most common mistakes that ruin accounts
Revenge trading
After the loss comes the effort to “give it all back” immediately. Without analysis, without opportunity. Just emotion. The result is another loss.
Increasing positions after a loss
“Now I’ll save it!” You won’t. Increasing positions without a system is the way to the abyss. The risk is multiplied – but the chances of winning are not.
Ignoring your own rules
You have a plan, but you don’t stick to it in real time. Emotions take over. The result is chaos – and often the end of the account.
Risk management is not optional. It is a basic.
You can be talented, dedicated and spend hours on the charts – but without proper risk management, it won’t be enough.
Survival means protecting your capital. Only when you can preserve it will you get a chance to appreciate it.
